Water Leak Repair

As some of you may have experienced, water leaks can be an absolute pain in the, you know what. It is said that into everyone’s life, some rain must fall, but when you have a leak in a water pipe and a big mess to deal with, it can be hard to be positive about it. Especially when the leaking pipe holds a large amount of water pressure and litre after litre is spilling out.

Although such a problem is capable of making a huge mess, it is also one of the easier problems for a qualified plumber to fix. Depending on the location and severity of the leak, it shouldn’t take long to repair. Also, depending on what type of pipe the leak is in (PVC, Poly, Copper, etc.) it may take a little longer.

When you discover a water leak, the best thing to do will usually be to turn off the water supply. This will save you a lot of time later on when it comes to cleaning up. Not only this, but it will also help prevent water damage to your home or place of business. There are a number of solutions for water leaks including replacing the leaking section of pipe with a new piece.

Leak detection available

Once the source of the leak is identified, the most common solution is to remove the leaking section of pipe and replace it with a new piece. This is done by using a joining process, much like what has been done along the rest of the pipe layout, to join and seal the new piece of pipe.

For leaks in PVC (polyvinyl chloride) or PB (polybutylene) plastic pipes the most common solution is to cut out the leaking piece of pipe with a pipe cutter or hacksaw and then slip a compression coupling in to place. Then it is simply a process of tightening the coupling and ensuring that it is snug.

Other solutions may involve the use of epoxy putty or perhaps water activated fiberglass resin tape. Both of these solutions can be used, but replacing the damaged section of pipe is more permanent.

10 year labour guarantee on all repaired water pipes

When it comes to underground water leaks, things can become more difficult. Leaks that occur underground can be a real pain and can very quickly become a dirty job. This involves digging up the ground around the leaking section of pipe, which may take a little longer than above ground operations. Although the process of fixing the pipe is more or less the same as above ground applications, the plumber will need to get sufficient amounts of pipe exposed to be able to solve the problem.
